2011-10-31

Notgeld is German for “emergency money” or “necessity money”. They are forms of currency issued by an institution not authorized for money emission, usually when the central bank cannot print money. Although it is not legal tender, it is used as mutually accepted means of payment in particular towns or areas. The most notable use of notgeld occurred in Germany and Austria-Hungary around the end of the first World War.

The Alphabet 2

2011-09-23

The Alphabet 2 is a hornbook (a book that serves as a foundation for education) video experiment by a design team in Italy, called n9ve. In the video, each letter of the alphabet is associated with a word and is depicted as the word itself.

Not only are the visuals amazing, but the sound design is fun as well, which allows the video to entice the minds of the old and new.

For those of you who have a history of fontaphilia, the same director, Alessandro Novelli, also created a video called The Alphabet, in which each letter is represented as the initial letter of a font.
